"The last time [they staged the play] a spark from a canon caught the thatched roof and the entire building burned down."At least I assume it was a typo, with one "n" eliminated from cannon. Maybe, given the subject matter, it really was a spark from a burning cleric.

Or possibly a spark from a red-hot body of work (Shakespeare's presumably) caused the fire!
Or, just possibly, a Japanese camera. Although that would be an anachronism
